Where can I find a real project?

Hi, everybody. I've started to work in Energy Plus and now I'd like to make a real building model but I don't know where I can find it. I need a small house and, maybe, multi-story building.

Thank you.

Here are some places you can find example EnergyPlus files:

For commercial buildings:

For residential buildings:

Other example models

  • The Example Files that come with EnergyPlus: C:\EnergyPlusV8-3-0\ExampleFiles

The calibration example found here has a model of the site entrance building at NREL, along with some metered data, weather info and a pdf with descriptions of the building, etc. The seed model is an OpenStudio model, but you could easily translate that to idf using OpenStudio.

I suggest BEopt as a first modeling exercise for EnergyPlus and residential modeling. An experienced user can create and run a model in about a minute and it will produce an EnergyPlus IDF for you to inspect in the IDFEditor or text editor to become familiar with the inputs.

As a second introductory exercise, I would try importing the IDF to OpenStudio which will retain everything (constructions, loads, schedules) but the HVAC system. From there you could rebuild the HVAC system(s) and further inspect the other inputs.
