Simulation result un-affected by choice of "fuel" for heating (DesignBuilder)

Hello everyone,

In DesignBuilder, I ran simulation several times using different fuel source (coal, electricity from grid, LPG), and my simulation result for both site and source energy is the same, is that normal?

FYI, I put in "GSHP with heated floor and natural ventilation" for the HVAC system in the house I modelled.

Would be great if someone could help, thanks!

@heeropepe are you using the "Simple HVAC" model option? If so, that would explain the constant site energy between fuel source cases if all fuel source options have the same cooling & heating efficiency.

Yes, I am! What can I do to show the difference? Thanks

To reinforce Aaron's comment, since you are using the Simple HVAC model option (E+ Ideal loads) these will not have any impact in DesignBuilder Summary tab as this is an unprocessed file (*.htm) from the E+ simulation. COP's are not considered in the E+ ideal loads object.

The COP's impact can only be seen on the Analysis tab fuels graph as this output is processed by DB. For more information about this subject see DB program help section When_DesignBuilder_output_is_different_from_unprocessed_EnergyPlus_Output

I'd suggest using DesignBuilder's Program Help and typing in fuel or similar search term to find the information you need. The energy consumption will largely be impacted by your systems efficiencies, set in the HVAC tab for Simple HVAC. See more details on the HVAC tab in the Program Help. If you still have a problem after that, submit a ticket to DesignBuilder's Support Desk and they will guide you.
