Difference between TYP and TMY

What's the difference between TYP and TMY weather files and how it impacts a simulation in OpenStudio? Also, can you guys send me some documentation/articles related to all the different types of weather files (AMY, TYP, TMY, DDY, etc...)?

Not sure what a TYP weather file is. TMY stands for Typical Meteorological Year (ISO. 2005. ISO Standard 15927–4:2005, Hygrothermal Performance of Buildings – Calculation and Presentation of Climatic Data – Part 4: Hourly Data for Assessing the Annual Energy Use for Heating and Cooling. International Standards Organization. Geneva, Switzerland: ISO. www.iso.org/standard/41371.html.)

AMY or MY is a single meteorological year. DDY is a common suffix for a file that has syntax for a EnergyPlus Design Day set. TRY is a Test Reference Year (popular around 1976).

Several papers at the climate.onebuilding.org site describe various details of files including an XMY - Extreme Meteorological Year.

According to http://weather.whiteboxtechnologies.c...: "TYP files are typical year files custom-developed by White Box Technologies, Inc. for various locations in the world using the same methodologies as used with IWEC2."

Then I think you need to ask Joe what the difference between TYP and TMY are as the IWEC2 methodology resulted in TMY files.
