Modelling single homes

Hello. I would like to model single homes and calibrate them to match historic zone temperature trends. I initially looked at SketchUp and OpenStudio, but there is no OS template for single homes; the closest template was MidriseApartment. I then looked at BEopt, and it looks a lot simpler to use, but I wonder if this has less flexibility in terms of user inputs.

My questions are as follows:

1) Could I use the MidriseApartment template in OS and use it to model a single residential home? Are there any underlying assumptions/settings that are only applicable to midrise apartments?

2) In SketchUp, must I select a template through "New OpenStudio Model from Wizard" to enable proper OS setup? Can I simply "Launch Openstudio" without selecting a template?

3) Which tool would you recommend for residential home modelling to zone temperature calibration?

Thank you so much!

The prototype building models for midrise apartment were developed based on the requirements in ASHRAE 90.1 (Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings) while single homes should follow ASHRAE 90.2, which is for low-rise residential buildings. There are residential prototype building models and the link is https://www.energycodes.gov/developme.... The models were developed by using EnergyPlus. By the way, BEopt is a nice tool to develop models for simple residential homes. It is able to do the zone temperature adjustment.

I have 2 doubts Yunyang. How can I import ASHRAE 90.2 to openstudio plug in? Does this standar is valid for other countries like Mexico?

There is not an openstudio version's residential building model (ASHRAE 90.2). The link provides EnergyPlus version. It is fine to select one building model for the climate zone you study as a starting point for your research.
