using PNNL models in openstudio

I am curious if others have tried to open or use PNNL idf files supplied by the USDOE and pacific Northwest National Lab in either e+ or openstudio w. success? When I attempt to open any of these files I get a long string of errors and am not well versed enough in the raw data to know how to fix them in a text editor unfortunately. Curious if anyone else had tips? I have tried updating the files using e+ IDF updater, but that did not help. The error string is quite long I copied a portion of it below for reference

File at J:/_Sustainability/PNNL Residential reference models/MF+CZ2B+USA_AZ_Phoenix-Sky.Harbor.Intl.AP.722780+elecres+crawlspace+IECC_2018.idf is not valid to draft strictness The collection is INVALID at strictness level 'Draft', because of the errors: Object level data error of type NoIdd . Error pertains to an object of type 'Catchall', named ''. Additional information about the error type: input data definition is missing or empty. Field level data error of type DataType Error is in an object of type 'RunPeriod', named 'annual', in field 5. Additional information about the error type: field-level data is of an incorrect type. Field level data error of type DataType . Error is in an object of type 'Schedule:Week:Compact', named 'RefrigeratorWeek', in field 1. Additional information about the error type: field-level data is of an incorrect type.

I was hoping to use these as reference files to better understand various set point and parameters for particular building types, but so far have been unsuccessful.

According to your post title, you seem to try to open an IDF file using OpenStudio Application. OpenStudio doesn't support that. You may be able to import some objects from an IDF file but won't get the full model converted to OSM objects.

Really? I would have expected to be able to import--since that option is offered by OpenStudio Application.

@nnevels have you considered using the Create DOE Prototype Measure.You can choose form the the DOE prototype building types, different target levels of performance including some DOE reference vintages and ASHRAE 90.1 standards, and you can choose from ASHRAE US climate zones.

@nnevels - just a word of caution, the prototypes generated by the measure won't be the same as the Commercial Prototype models.
