Query about the need to input the details of BIMserver settings before I can use OpenStudio

When I open the OpenStudio Application Version 1.0.1 and try to import IFC file to OpenStudio, a message box appears asking me to provide the details of BIMserver settings, including BIMserver address, BIMserver post, Usesrname and Password.

I presume that OpenStudio is a free, open software, so I just wonder if these information is required before I can use OpenStudio. If so, please advise where I can find these information.

I would like to use OpenStudio to convert a SketchUp file to gbXML file for importing to DesignBuilder for environmental performance assessment. Your advice is sought please. Thanks.

Importing gbXML into OpenStudio is fairly easy, there is a tutorial here. I do not know if there is a way to export IFC using this approach.

Importing IFC into OpenStudio is a more complicated process, there is a tutorial here. Exporting gbXML from OpenStudio is basically the same process as importing.

Importing/exporting gbXML is fairly robust in OpenStudio, importing IFC is not as well tested or maintained. I suggest you import/export gbXML instead of IFC if that is an option for you.

I am also unsure if your desired workflow is to take an arbitrary SketchUp Model, export IFC using SketchUp, import IFC to OpenStudio, export gbXML using OpenStudio. If so, the exported IFC from SketchUp is not likely to contain the information needed to import into OpenStudio. The general BIM to BEM workflow is not yet realized for most tools. If your starting point is an arbitrary SketchUp Model you might see if Sefaira can meet your needs?

what about the workflow from IFC file to IDF file with creating zones automatically?

I have never used a workflow that can do that. It might be possible in Revit or other tools but I have not used it.
