Are there any documents illustrating the HVAC systems in Appendix G?! It will be helpful to engineers and Architects to analyze the graphics and diagrams rather than narration.
The ASHRAE 90.1 user manual has a numerous illustrations, however.
This resource is not a document, but the template HVAC systems in OpenStudio line up pretty closely with the 90.1 Appendix G system types and the GUI makes diagrams that are pretty simple. To view them:
System types 1 and 2 are pieces of zone-equipment that can be seen by clicking on the thermal zones tab in the left column and dragging a PTAC or PTHP from the library on the right into the zone equipment drop zone.
If you are presenting these often, you could take screenshots of these, make a PowerPoint, and post the slides so that in the future this question has a better answer.
One question though... I'm trying to use System 8 - VAV with Parallel Fan-Powered Boxes and Reheat. But in OS it loads an air cooled chiller instead of a water cooled chiller. Is this a bug? Are there any models or measures I could take a look at to help me set it up?
@Julien Marrec It is intentional; this is why I said they line up "pretty closely" :). The two Measures at this link have the same code as OS but in Measure format. To get what you want, I would take 7, which shows how to add a condenser loop and attach the chiller, and replace the VAV terminals with the PFP terminals from 8.
It doesn't include all the same systems exactly, but the DOE-2.2 Manual Volume 1: Basics has a lot of useful scematics that correspond, or are similar to the Appendix G systems. http://doe2.com/download/doe-22/DOE22Vol1-Basics.pdf
I found using Detailed HVAC System Module ( apart from compact or simple HVAC system) in DesignBuilder describe the HVAC system components graphically via system schematic diagram. This is very close to template HVAC systems in OpenStudio but with more powerful and flexible interface.
ASHRAE Handbook of HVAC Systems and Equipment Chapter 4 is a good reference to all HVAC Systems, thanks for the reference.
ASHRAE Handbook of HVAC Systems and Equipment Chapter 4 describes some of the air-side systems with diagrams.
These are more than just the Appendix G mapped system types, and you'll have to look at other chapters for the description of the primary heating and cooling systems...overall a great resource if you aren't familiar with some of the potential variations in configuration for air distribution systems.
Chapter 4 will be a great read for you if you aren't familiar with some of the older system types that are common in existing buildings, more so than for Appendix G which is focused on a few modern system types.
