EnergyPlus: Output variables/meters to segregate heating loads by source type

Hi everyone!

Someone can suggest me which Output:Variable should I select in EnergyPlus in order to segregate all heating loads by source type? I would like to get a pie chart showing the one which contributes the most with heat to the thermal zones: Lights, Electric Equipment, People, Walls, Ceillings, Floors, Windows or Infiltration. Well, if there is another one which I forgot, please let me know.

I've already tried these ones:

  • Zone Lights Electric Energy [J] and Zone Electric Equipment Electric Energy [J], for lights and electric equipment, respectively.
  • For People, I'm not sure if I sum Zone People Sensible Heating Energy [J] with Zone People Latent Gain Energy [J] or I select directlly Zone People Total Heating Energy [J]. Seems like the the sum of sensible and latent is different from total heating energy.

Thanks in advance!

For the peak component loads you might want to take a look at the zone component loads summary.

If you are looking for the sum of the component heat gains throughout the year you can look at the Sensible Heat Gain Summary. The documentation shows every variable that was used and how they were added up for the columns shown in the table. Remember, these are the heat gains or losses (instantaneous energy added to or removed from the space) not the loads (the rate heat is added to or removed from the space by the A/C system which accounts for the delayed affect of building mass).

I appreciate for your answer JasonGlazer! Sorry for the delay to comment it. I didn't know that EnergyPlus could generate this Output:Report. But, I'm afraid that it's not quite what I'm looking for, because this zone component loads summary give me only the moment which the peak loads ocurred. I'm more interested to get the sum of heat loads sources in the whole Run Period.

You can use a bunch of the output variables for internal loads and such. It is more difficult to get breakdown for surfaces due to the way that the heat balance algorithm works.

Yes, I would like know which Output variable to turn on. I think it's not necessary to get the breakdown for surfaces, only for thermal zones (I edited the question to make it clear). Thanks again for your answer JasonGlazer.
