My question is about the energy consumption of cooling and heating by using ideal load air system. what is the value of COP set as default ??? how can i setup the COP ???

I feel that the result is very low, at winter should be more heating but the result does not show that

From the Input/Output reference:

This component can be thought of as an ideal unit that mixes air at the zone exhaust condition (or plenum outlet condition when a plenum is attached) with the specified amount of outdoor air and then adds or removes heat and moisture at 100% efficiency in order to produce a supply air stream at the specified conditions.

Therefore the Ideal Loads Air System COP is always 1.

If the heating energy is lower than you would expect, it might be due to not specifying the right amount of outside air. The answer to this question pertains to specifying outside air for the ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem.

Thx Mr,Eric for value information, I have other question: what is the output variable should i select to get result of total energy consumption of heating and cooling occur by Ideal load air system ??? Do you recommend me to use this approach (Ideal loads air system) to calculate the energy consumption of heating and cooling or is better to model full HVAC system ??? however I am in field of architecture i dont need accurate result but it should be in range ????

Please Mr,Eric could please explain to me how to add outdoor air load to this approach (ideal loads air system) as you mentioned above. I still beginner in energyplus, i could not understand the link that you gave me.

  1. Energy used by ideal air systems is reported as DistrictHeating and DistrictCooling in the default EnergyPlus output report. No need to specify additional outputs.
  2. Ideal Air systems are useful if you don't care about the HVAC energy used in the building. If you do, you should model an HVAC system.
  3. I recommend you consult the available beginner guides and documentation for both OpenStudio and EnergyPlus.
