Air Curtain Modelling Technique

Dear Everyone,

I am dealing with few energy models for LEED which contains Air Curtain. This device works only to prevent cold air infiltration when doors are open. Usualy I had one or two air curtains in a few store buildings so their energy use weren`t big comparing to whole energy use. In that case I modeled them using their maximum capacity and simple shedule ( 80% capacity in peak building load in winter time and 40% in other hours in building time operation).

The problem exist in my new model - KFC restaurant. Air curtains using this schedule use too much energy - 2x more than central heating. It seems unrealistic and I have no idea how to model them accurately. I use the same technique for both Baseline and Proposed case.

I use Carrier HAP software. I am looking forward for any help.

OK I will answer my question, cause we solved the problem. 1. assume oppening time, example 8-16 every day 10 min per hour is open. 2. calculate the infiltration by simple assumptions. L/s/m2 oppening or more sophisticated used wind. Calculate how many air will get into building is there is no air curtine. 3.We assume that incomming 80% of air is blocked by curtain. The rest needs to be warmed up. 4. we can obtain L/s of fresh air every hour. We can prepare a fresh OA schedule. 5. Set one dummy space in HAP with max OA calculated. 6. include it in system and set cooling and heating coil. 7. Electric energy use to power the fan can be calculated separately using a schedule.
