OpenStudio: eleminating undrawable surfaces in OpenStudio?

Hi all,

I have a surface error as follows:

*** 19088 , !- Zone Name * Severe * IP: IDF line~19088 Error detected in Object=BUILDINGSURFACE:DETAILED, name=SURFACE 130 * ~~~ * Field [Zone Name] is required but was blank * Warning * IP: Note -- Some missing fields have been filled with defaults. See the audit output file for details. * Severe * IP: Blank "required" fields found in input * Severe * IP: Out of "range" values and/or blank required fields found in input * Fatal * IP: Errors occurred on processing IDF file. Preceding condition(s) cause termination. ...Summary of Errors that led to program termination: ..... Reference severe error count=3

I am not able to edit this one out in Sketchup and it does not appear in the OpenStudio editor...Once I open the out.idf file in the IDF editor I can find the surface (130) with its missing zone cell highlited and change it. This works fine however, I'm just beginning to use these programs and need to size a plant off of the loads. I really need to use I-P units for my calcs.

Another issue and this may belong under another heading; I can import the fixed idf into OS but my constructions and spaces are gone... I can fix the spaces but the constructions are timely to build and I really need to be able to "move" them in and out of different files. To date I have had zero success moving the constructions in and out of different project files, I expect the BCL can be used for this but I haven't found any guides or tutorials on exactly how to achieve this..

Any help and or guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dustin

For future reference, it would be better to have these as two separate questions. Easier for people to find down the road.

Thanks, David. I thought going into it that they are really two separate questions but couldn't help my self! I ended up using the recommended measure and it worked. I couldn't believe it -I had the remove orphaned sub-surfaces measure in and not the one you suggested!

See if this post helps. It has link to method in OS app and in SketchUp plugin to remove orphan surfaces.

Here is SketchUp plugin documentation on importing IDF or OSM constructions into a currently open OSM file. But really using the Library of the OS app is the preferred solution. Any OSM file can be loaded as a library (use the file menu to load in a library of resources, then browse to your file).
