Simulate Packed Bed Thermal Storage System

Hello,

I am learning how to use OpenStudio and I am not fully knowledgeable in now to apply features in OpenStudio to create a given building system. I have learned quite a lot from this forum already, this is a great source for information.

I am trying to model a packed bed thermal storage system. An example of this would be circulating hot air from a room through an insulated container full of stones to store the heat, which could then be recovered later by recirculating the room through the container (generally in the opposite direction to the flow of the air when energy was being stored).

I currently am modelling a very simple, single zone, small rectangular building with a large window on each wall and a large skylight. I have a hot water baseboard heating system, and a simple air HVAC loop consisting of an outdoor air controller, constant speed fan, and a diffuser.

I read a post on thermal storage using hot water tanks but this is not quite what I am looking for, though it may be an acceptable analog if the above described system cannot be simulated.

Thank you for your help.

E+ has only chilled water and Ice storage models to your help. As you need packed bed you probably are trying to get more detailed information on the storage which is not possible in E+existing model. I suggest Use Matlab or another package to model packed bed storage and costimulate with e+ using BCVTB or MLE+ or any other tool of preference.

Thank you. I had no idea that multiple simulation programs could be connected. This is a great help.
