How do you make your heating/cooling thermostat follow your occupancy schedule?

"I am attempting to create a model for a building where the heating and cooling thermostats will follow my occupancy schedule. Essentially, I want the HVAC to switch off when nobody is occupying the room, then switch on and regulate the temperature to a comfortable level when the room is being occupied. Currently, I am using Zone Equipment. Can someone please guide me on how I can achieve this?"

You can set the “Availability Schedule Name” of your HVAC system to be the same as your occupancy “Number of People Schedule Name”. The HVAC system will be off when the availability schedule is zero and on when it is anything else. Of course, if there is an extended period with no occupancy and the floating temperature deviates significantly from set point, the HVAC system may not be able to recover within, say, a single timestep depending on the available heating/cooling capacity.
