How do you start OpenStudio Application on Mac OS X?

I am completely new to OpenStudio and really struggling to follow the installation instructions which simply say the following:

  1. Download the latest release of OpenStudio Application here.
  2. Choose the installer that matches your operating system. The OpenStudio Application package contains the following components:
  3. OpenStudio Application
  4. EnergyPlus
  5. Ruby API
  6. C# API
  7. Command Line Interface
  8. Radiance
  9. Application Resources

The next statement says "Optional - Download and install SketchUp and the Openstudio SketchUp Plug-in"

I followed these steps and launched the installer which created a folder in my Applications folder called 'OpenStudio-3.6.0'. However, this is not an application, just a folder with files in it.

There is no explanation of how to launch the application.

I then tried to follow the 'INTRODUCTORY TUTORIAL' further down the page linked above.

The first statement in this tutorial is "Selecting a Library for Constructions, Loads, and Schedules Libraries that are included with the OpenStudio Application ..." and shows a screenshot of the Windows application already open.

What I am unable to achieve is the step that launches the application.

If you have an Applications/OpenStudio-3.6.0 folder (not an Applications/OpenStudioApplication-1.6.0 folder), that means you've downloaded/installed the OpenStudio CLI/SDK. As you're instead after the OpenStudioApplication, download/install either the x86 or ARM64 .dmg version under Assets, depending on your system.

Once installed, launch OpenStudioApp.app (under Applications/OpenStudioApplication-1.6.0). You can also drag it in your Dock for subsequent launches. Make sure you can launch the App, maybe open/save/run an existing .osm file. Once successful, look into installing the SU Plugin.

I see. Thank you. I did indeed go to https://openstudio.net/downloads and selected 'Mac' from under 'OpenStudio Release'. I had no idea that was not the software application and that I instead needed to go to the openstudiocoalition GitHub site and look for the .app file there.

I don't see a folder called 'Assets' at https://github.com/openstudiocoalition/OpenStudioApplication but I managed to download the .app file using the link you provided and now installed it.

@workless : I edited my initial answer. With every release, there's an Assets tab holding supported installers + source code.

Thanks I found it. I had to click on a release first and then the release ReadMe has a heading called Assets as shown in your answer. Now I see there is a statement on the main page saying "The OpenStudio Application can be downloaded for Mac, Linux, and Windows on the Releases page." I missed that!
