Interior Image Luminance and Glare Spot (Radiance)

Dear all,

I am wondering if I can set a camera inside the model and run Radiance within OpenStudio and get interior luminace with colorful Glare spots.

Sounds like you are looking to create images for analysis with either evalglare or findglare. Unfortunately we do not currently support image generation with Radiance in OpenStudio.

The OpenStudio Radiance support does have a Glare Sensor object, which you can place in your OS model to define view points. Currently these defined points calculate vertical illuminance, and OpenStudio will calculate Daylight Glare Probability-simplified (DGPs) for all these views, producing a simple report in the Radiance output directory. As DGPs is based on the integrated hemispherical flux and therefore has no spatial component, the metric is fairly limited.

We believe that dynamic daylight metrics such as Continuous Daylight Autonomy (DAcon) and Useful Daylight Illuminance (UDI) do a fair job of indicating where designs are potentially admitting too much daylight, and are reasonable proxies for simplified glare analysis. For a rigorous glare evaluation ideally one would render an angular hemispherical fisheye view, and pass that to Evalglare for evaluation and derivation of DGP. In the next major OpenStudio release we will export the Glare Analysis Points as Radiance angular fisheye views as part of the OpenStudio model translation, but it will still be up to the user to perform their own image generation and analysis.
