Modeling Hybrid Water Heaters

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help with this question- which would be greatly appreciated.

I need to model a hybrid Water Hetare, including a main HP water Heater and a natural gas backup water heater. Having that said, I need to add control to that design, aims to switch the water heater only if peak loads exceed a certain level.

Thanks!

Use a WaterHeater:HeatPump:WrappedCondenser object that references a WaterHeater:Stratified storage tank with natural gas fuel type.

By default, the heat pump will strive to meet the hot water load and the natural gas will serve as backup. If you want to disable the heat pump at various times, you can write an EMS program to, for example, actuate the Schedule Value of the heat pump compressor availability schedule.

Thanks Scott! This is what I gussed. Just wanted to double check if there is any other solution rather than EMS- that could be used towards such modeling.
