OpenStudio Application: HVAC Plant Loop, VAVs and Thermal Zones

Hello,

I have a building that I am working on that has the following component order in the HVAC system. I have worked on a system that the plant loop directly connects to the AHU heating and cooling coil and then to the thermal zones. However, this is new to me where the VAVs are in between AHU and Thermal zones as the following diagram. I am sure this is normal but it is new to me as I am new to OpenStudio App: and building energy systems. Can I add a refrigeration system that connects the heating and cooling coil to VAV and another refrigeration system that can connect to the specific VAV that I can connect multiple Thermal Zones? Or how do you do it?

Thanks in advance,

@nissaldeelaka by "refrigeration system", do you mean a DX coil for cooling air in a single AHU / VAV, a VRF coil that's part of a system cooling air across multiple zone terminal units, or something else?

It is a DX coil for cooling air in a single AHU / VAV. It is definitely not a VRF. Basically, AHU heats and cools outdoor air and recirculated air and delivers into the duct system. And VAVs control the air delivery to assigned thermal zones. VAVs do have a reheating coil though. Hope this helps.

Ahh, so "VAVs" are the VAV terminal units and not VAV rooftop units or air handlers (primary AHU feeding into secondary AHU)?

Yes, VAV terminal units. Not rooftop units.
