How to set up thermal storage in Trnsys?

Hi, I need to model a thermal storage tank that is powered by an air source heat pump and a PV/T system and is able to provide space heating and domestic hot water. The thermal storage is a stratified tank for which I know bottom - top - average temperature. Also, the thermal storage set point is managed by the heat pump. I have tried several types to model this system, but none of them gives me a realistic output: can anyone suggest which type to use? (I used: Type 563= PV/T, Thermal storage= Type 60c; DHW= Type 4d; ASHP=Type 917).

You are not clear about which version of TRNSYS you are using, but it looks like you have access to the TESS Libraries. For the storage tanks I would recommend using Type534 from the TESS Storage Tank Component Library. Also make sure that the data file used to determine the ASHP performance matches the behavior of the ASHP that you are attempting to model.

Hi! I am using Trnsys 17. Yes, I have access to the TESS library and in fact I am using Type 534 - noHX to model the storage tank; while for the air-water heat pump, compared to what I wrote above, I am using Type 919 ... what do you mean by 'data files'? I downloaded the data sheet of the heat pump and set it according to that data

Type919 uses data files with normalized performance data to model the performance of a Water-source Heat Pump. When you create the data file, make sure that you normalize correctly and then enter appropriate parameters to calculate the performance. If you still question to outputs from the model you should contact your TRNSYS distributor for technical support.
