Is transmitted solar radiation affected by window frame width?

Hi,

When running a simulation in E+ 9.4.0 and outputting the "Windows Total Transmitted Solar Radiation Energy [J] (Hourly)" I noticed that the maximum value is affected by the existance or not of a window frame. However, the width of the frame doesn't seem to have any impact on it. In other words it seems to be just on/off.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have "Windows Total Transmitted Solar Radiation Energy [J] (Hourly)" take into account the frame width?

@Ma it sounds like you're using EnergyPlus or one of its interfaces. Could you add a tag for the simulation tool that you're using so that others can provide better help?

@Aaron Boranian thank you for your notice. The simulation tool is Energy Plus 9.4.0 (no interface used).

If you read the description of the WindowProperty:FrameAndDivider object, you'll see that it says "The window vertices that you specify in the FenestrationSurface:Detailed object are those of the glazed part of the window, not the frame. EnergyPlus automatically subtracts the area of the frame—determined from the glazing dimensions and the frame width—from the area of the wall containing the window."

So while the presence of the frame will introduce some shading of the glazing due to the frame outside projection, the width of the frame does not have any effect on transmitted solar.
