Positioning of pumps - plant loop/condenser loop

Hello!

Basically in energyplus we have loop pumps and branch pumps. Plenty of times in documentatios you can find applications with loop pumps on the inlet side. Is it also possible with energyplus to use multiple pumps (one pump for each chiller and one pump for each fluid cooler) on the inlet side or on the outlet side? Which pump obejcts are reqired (possible with Pump:ConstantSpeed and Pump:VariableSpeed objects)? Attached you can find the required chiller plant. 150506_Chiller-Plant.png

Thanks for your answers.

Best regards, Alex

Is anybody there, who has tested or using fluid coolers and pumps on the inlet side or outlet side?

Regards, Alex

Example file 5ZoneBranchSupplyPumps.idf illustrates branch pumps for each chiller. Similarly, branch pumps can be added with fluid coolers in condenser loop also. Two branch pumps i.e. both at inlet and outlet of chiller may not be allowed by EnergyPlus. Pump rules are summarized in the documentation.

Variable or constant speed branch pumps on each chiller are fine.

FYI, this will NOT work though if you are trying to set up a primary secondary pumping arrangement. See this thread
