Is there an easy workaround to use the new Python API with EnergyPlus 9.3 for files like PythonPluginCustomTrendVariable.idf and PythonPluginCustomTrendVariable.py in the ExampleFiles directory?

I know there's active work going on to fix the problem, in Continued API/Plugin Issues #7877 and Problems linking to API #7888, but I couldn't figure out a workaround from those.
