reflective paints

Hi I am trying to model a roof and walls covered with an expernal reflective paint according to the energyplus Input Output Reference - "Attempting to trick the program by modeling thin “paint” layers to apply surface properties is not a good idea; the models were not intended to support such strategies."

I have the reflectance and emmitance values, as well as a calculated r value for the layer

how can the thin paint layer should be modeled?

You can model the effect of reflectance by changing the surface properties of the relevant constructions. You can edit the reflectance of floors, walls, ceilings etc by editing the material properties assigned to the material in the relevant layer in the construction. Note that light reflectance is 1 minus absorptance. This is explained in the Help file and also I think in the (free constructions) DesignBuilder tutorial.
