EnergyPlus: Control of temperature increase

I noticed that in some hours, the indoor temperature of my building model rises up too much and goes above the SetPoint temperature. For example the SetPoint is 26°C and the temperature reaches 30 °C, that is too much. How can I control it? I am simulating an ideal cooling and heating system. Is it correct if I set a limit in the section "ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem"?

First, I would double-check that your zone's thermostat is set up correctly. You can refer to this post for details.

If your thermostat is set up correctly, then check your ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem object. Some input fields that could be causing this unmet hours issue are:

I set a SingleHeating and SingleCooling ThermostatSetPoint and so the HVAC system is set to 1 and 2 depending on the period of the year. Only in August is set equal to 0 because I do not want any cooling or heating. I am quite sure about these parameters. Concerning the other values, I kept the default values but I do not know if I should change something. For example, for "Cooling Limit" there is NoLimit and for "cooling availabilityschedule" there is nothing already set.

When do the unmet hours occur during the simulation? Summer months beside August?

It would be really helpful if you posted the text or an image of the input fields for:

  • ZoneControl:Thermostat object
  • Thermostat control schedule
  • ThermostatSetpoint:SingleCooling object
  • ThermostatSetpoint:SingleHeating object
  • Cooling and heating thermostat setpoint schedules
  • ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem object
