Should infiltration air be removed?

Hi All,

I'm using EnergyPlus to model a zone that is being supplied with conditioned air and has infiltration (ZoneInfiltration:DesignFlowRate). I see that the flow rates for my HVAC equipment balances (e.g. HVAC air flow supply = HVAC return air flow). 1)Shouldn't the system also remove the additional air introduced via infiltration? 2) If it doesn't, does the "build of up air" skew the results (e.g. increasing the total volume of air to heat/cool in the zone)?

Thanks!

The thermal impact of infiltration is included in the zone air heat balance, but not the mass. The default zone air mass calculations do not account for infiltration, so there is no build up of air in zones as you describe. To include the mass balance, you'll need to add a ZoneAirMassFlowConservation object for your zones, or balance the flows manually. You can read more about it in the engineering reference here
