how can i make empty space type for attic?

how can i make empty space type for attic? I'm using openstudio 1.11.1 and my model is a single story office building with a hipped roof and the building has ceiling split it from the attic, where the attic is non conditioned . So for this case what type of space type for the attic can I choose? If I want to assign empty space type for the attic, how can choose empty space since it is not available in the library? For your information "get BCL space type" is not available in this version. @David Goldwasser: I would appreciate your help. Thanks in advanced.

You have a few options.

  1. If you don't have a default space type for the building you can just not assign a space type
  2. If you do have a default space type for the building you can click the green "+" near the bottom left of the space types tab to add a new (empty) space type. You can then rename that space type and assign it to your attic.

With either of these options you should still add infiltration and/or ventilation to the attic, even if no people and internal loads. With option 1 you add the infiltration directly to a space, with option 2 you add it to the space type. Also make sure that "Part of Total Floor Area" is not checked for your attic space in the "Spaces" tab so it doesn't impact the total building area and EUI.

Updated answer in response to comment about adding Infiltration to space type:

While many objects can be added in OpenStudio by clicking on a green "+", such as adding a new space type or plug load definition, other objects can only be added by dragging them in from the library and re-naming them and adjusting properties. That is the case for outdoor air and infiltration objects, demonstrated in the screenshot below. After adding the object select it, to expose editable name and properties in the "Edit" pane. image description

@David Goldwasser, if i drag break room infiltration for my attic and rename it, any changes for the parameters need to be edited, if so what values do you recommend? thanks.
