Radiance/daysim in OpenStudio

Hi, My work will use the process of parametric simulation in OpenStudio, and it is about integrate the hybrid ventilation and the daylighting in office's buildings. My doubt is if the OpenStudio do the process of simulate the daylighting with the algorithm of Radiance/Daysim, that I need to use.

Thank you, and sorry about the possible errors in english,

Hi @Caroline, OpenStudio can use Radiance for the daylighting simulations in your work, but currently only from the OpenStudio application, or from the command line. You mention you want to do a "parametric simulation in OpenStudio", which I take to mean you intend to use the Parametric Analysis Tool (PAT). PAT can be made to do what you want, via some custom measures.

I should further qualify this by saying that even with a custom measure, Radiance would only use the so-called "single phase method" for the simulations, which precludes the use of dynamic shading devices on your windows. Support for three-phase and dynamic glass and shading devices is coming this year but is definitely not part of OpenStudio at the moment.

I'm happy to work with you to get PAT and Radiance working for you if the single phase will work for your current project.

Yes, that's right, I want to use de PAT to do parametric simulation. What can the PAT parametrize? Everything? I will not use shading devices in my windows, because of the method of airflow group in energyplus, so this is not a problem.

PAT leverages OpenStudio "Measures" to do its bidding. At the moment, OS measures are designed to work with OpenStudio and EnergyPlus only; they are not able to use Radiance. That said, there is tremendous power in the measures framework as it currently exists, I encourage you to check out the Measure Writing Guide for more info, and to browse the measures section of the BCL for ideas. We are currently working to add Radiance support to measures.
