How can I insert the U value and g value for windows in OpenStudio model?

I am doing the modelling in openstudio and I will run the simulation in energyplus for a simple house. I am a very new user to simulation programs. I am given by the exercise ONLY the U and g value for windows as well as that they are double glazing. I create a new material for windows but I have to insert all these values regarding transmittance and reflectance which I do not have and obviously no option for the SHGC. When I only load materials from the library I see that they have in their properties the U and g values reported but I cannot modify it. Do you know any simple way to do this? Thanks!

Use the Simple Glazing System Window Material.

It has 3 inputs:

  • U-Factor
  • SHGC
  • Visible Transmittance.

Here's how you add it:

Nice! I didnt know about this option. But it brings up a question that SHGC is obtained based on multiple properties such as glazing type, type of the gas between panes, number of panes, framing material, and so many other properties so, it cannot be defined independent from other components. Even in WINDOW you cannot define the SHGC only for the glazing. What does this number mean then?

Be careful with Simple Glazing System, parameters change a lot according to the country standards: http://rdh.com/wp-content/uploads/201...

Check the EP documentation :

  • U-Factor = This is the rated (NFRC) value for U-factor under winter heating conditions.

  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient = This is the rated (NFRC) value for SHGC under summer cooling conditions and represents SHGC for normal incidence and vertical orientation.

If you create (or find) your glazing on WINDOW, you have access to these data.
