openstudio-standards incorporated into future builds directly?

I saw a note indicating that the openstudio-standards will be added to the main installer in future releases. Is this the case?

I've dug through some of it and noticed NECB 2011 references. I'm trying to establish whether openstudio will allow showing energy compliance for the NECB 2011 "Performance Path" in the future, both for the 'proposed' building, and an equivalent 'reference' building.

Yes, openstudio-standards will be included in the OS installer, probably in version 1.11.0 in March.

The NRCan team working on the NECB stuff (@Maria Mottillo and @Phylroy Lopez) can chime in on what exact capabilities they will be enabling and when.

This is part of our bTAP/TAO work - we are developing the models of archetype buildings that meet the NECB 2011 in OpenStudio, following the same methodology and working off of the same repository as NREL (openstudio_standards) – they are incorporating the A90.1 standards. These archetype “scripts” will be released under the standards project with NREL by this summer as part of our research. Rather than create the models the conventional way by hand, we are using databases and scripts to generate the models of the archetype buildings that meet NECB 2011.

The idea is that the bTAP/TAO platform will make it easier for codes committees to evaluate changes to codes and compare performance to international codes. While this database was set up to do archetype work, a clever coder could use this as a starting point for developing a reference case. This is not the intent of the research project right now.

This answer is a bit unclear to me. (I understand you're merely passing along information.) What's unclear is whether with the openstudio-standards addition, it will be possible to choose space types and construction types defined by NECB, and to then run the simulation based on those settings with NECB rules?

The standards project is to create the 16 NECB Canadian archetype models based on the DOE reference buildings. The project scope is not to create a compliance tool. The uses of this could be for large scale campus modelling and code development as Maria indicated.

That being said.. a significant amount of NECB logic has been added to the standards gem. This could be used to create what you are describing above if you are willing to code in Ruby, but that is not in the scope of the work right now.
