is there a way to get data for a manufacturing facility?

I am learning OpenStudio and I recently started modeling a warehouse that has a medium size manufacturing space and some offices. I was not able to see the attributes for the manufacturing space in the on-demand template generators using the SketchUp plug in. I loaded the warehouse and office space attributes but could not find the same for the manufacturing space. I found the occupancy measure/component for a manufacturing facility in the BCL but I am not sure if I can add that in OS in the Facility tab for the "people definitions" button. Is there a way to model a manufacturing facility or am I doing it all wrong? Thanks a lot in advance!

Can you point me to what you found on the BCL. Did you find a measure or a component?

Hi David, I double checked it and this is a "component" with the tag occupant. Listed in the BCL as High Activity - Heavy Work, Factory Work. Thank you!

For reference, that isn't telling you the occupancy level for a space, it is telling you for a specific type of activity how much heat a person gives off.

Thank you for your insight David! If I were to add this component to my model in OpenStudio, should I added it in the "Load" section or "Spaces" section under the tab "Loads" for Activity Schedule (people only) ?

I don't know of a database for manufacturings. If I had to model one I would do the following.

  1. Get spec sheets for the major pieces of equipment. If there is a person to talk to at facility they may be better source for information.
  2. See if they run near full load all the time or if it fluctuates a lot in normal operation.
  3. Get the operational schedule for the equipment.
  4. If there is metered data that could be used to constrain the problem. What is the lowest and highest value typically seen during operation.

David, thanks again for your answer(s)! I was thinking of something similar but your answer really sticks to a better approach for modeling this type of building. I will try to get more information for equipment and schedules that I can include in my model.
