This is not a technical question, nor does it need to be precise. It seems to me that the number of E+ users has grown and I was asked about it today. Does anyone keep track of the number of downloads, for example?

A quick update and some nuance as well. Both EnergyPlus and OpenStudio now do over 27,000 downloads per version update and have been tracking one another for over a year now. This isn't to say there are 27,000 OpenStudio users in the world. Hard to say how many there really are although we are trying to collect this data in various ways. But I also want to point out that this number represents only a fraction of the EnergyPlus user base because EnergyPlus is bundled with other tools—DesignBuilder, AECOSim, Sefaira Systems, etc.—for which we don't have download or use numbers.
@__AmirRoth__ do these numbers represent downloads from the official .net sites, the GitHub release pages, or both?
Also maybe the download pages could use a counter?
@__AmirRoth__: can someone check how many people are registered on openstudio.net and energyplus.net? (I for example have usually downloaded openstudio and energyplus at least two-three times for each version on different machines)
